Group Home Neglect

Many adults and children with developmental disabilities live in group homes where they receive specialized care and training adapted to their specific needs and capabilities.  These vulnerable people are dependent on others to provide the supervision and care necessary to help them through everyday life.  Sadly, at Warner & Warner have seen abuse and neglect of people in group homes many times, and we have handled many cases involving custodial abuse and neglect.  Florida has specific laws giving rights to developmentally disabled adults and children who reside in residential facilities and group homes.  The lawyers at Warner & Warner are intimately familiar with these laws and have successfully prosecuted numerous cases under the law.

Similar to a nursing home or assisted living facility, there are many different types of injuries that can be associated with group homes. Some specific areas of concern include:

    • Physical Abuse
    • Rape and Other Sexual Abuses
    • Lack of Supervision
    • Delayed or Denied Medical Care
    • Medication Errors
    • Infections
    • Fractures
    • Burns
    • Falls and Drops
    • Dehydration and Malnutrition
    • Unexplained Injuries

If you have a child or other loved one in a group home and you suspect there may be abuse or neglect, contact Warner & Warner immediately.  Our experience and knowledge can be put to work for you to provide answers and bring the wrongdoers to justice.  In our past cases, we have worked closely with law enforcement and criminal prosecutors to help prove our case and punish abusers.  In one particular case, our efforts resulted in a mother being able to place a video camera in her daughter’s room to monitor her 24 hours a day via a closed circuit television camera and an internet connection after she was abused by an employee of the group home.

This type of experience is rare, and these cases are very important to us.  We would be honored to assist you if your child or other loved one has been abused or neglected in a group home. Warner & Warner has the specialized experience and knowledge to prove cases of custodial neglect.
