Jeep’s plug-in hybrid vehicles in the US. are facing another safety recall. The car brand recently recalled over 320,00 vehicles due to battery issues. Jeep’s mother company, Stellantis, is recalling 112,859 units due to an engine issue.
The recall includes the 4xe versions of the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler. The affected units were from the 2023 to 2025 model years. The manufacturer is taking back the cars because of a problem with the engine.
What is the Issue?
It’s possible that the sand from the engine casting process got into the inside parts. This debris can cause important parts to wear out faster and break. It could also lead to a sudden loss of propulsion. In severe cases, it could also cause underhood fire. This increases the risk of injury to occupants and others nearby.
Mexico-based Nemak supplied the contaminated engine blocks. According to reports, the engine blocks weren’t cleaned properly after the casting process. This allowed residual sand to remain inside the components. The oversight happened during the production period from June 2023 through March 2024.
There are 144 warranty claims, 50 service records, and 50 field reports of lost propulsion. There are also 36 fires due to the defective engine. Jeep management is aware of these issues.
What Consumers Can Do
A remedy for the issue is still in development. But experts say an engine replacement is the possible solution. This is due to the nature of the contamination.
Jeep dealers were first notified of the recall on November 13, 2025. Vehicle owners will receive customer notification in the last week of December.
The affected VINs are already uploaded to Jeep’s consumer website. Drivers can check if their vehicles are part of the recall. They should also schedule an inspection once repair instructions become available.
