Bell Sports announced it is recalling around 16,465 units of its Giro Merit bicycle helmets. The helmets reportedly do not follow federal safety standards. It might not provide the wearer adequate protection in the event of a crash. This could result in head injuries.
The Giro Merit helmets were then sold in Canada and the US.
The company says it hasn’t received any reports of injuries or incidents about the issue.
What are the Affected Products?
Bell Sports reported it’s recalling Giro Merit helmets manufactured before January 2023.
The helmets in question have the model name “Merit” printed on the side or rear of the helmet. There’s also a sticker with the model name on the inner side of the helmet. The inside of the helmet also has a sticker with GH230 printed on it.
The helmets were reportedly made in China. They were later sold at stores like Epicenter Cycling and Freewheel Bike West Bank. Velotech and other sports shops across the country also sold the recalled gear.
The helmets were also sold at online stores like www.Backcountry.com and www.Giro.com.
What Can Consumers Do?
Bell Sports is advising customers to stop using recalled Giro Merit helmets. They should also call the company and ask for a full refund. They can also opt to get a free replacement helmet.
