Bell Sports has issued a voluntary recall of its Slope adult helmets.
The Irvine-based company reported that the helmet’s strap anchor can get dislodged. This can happen if there’s enough application of force to the helmet. This is a violation of the safety regulations for bicycle helmets.
The helmets could fail to protect the wearer in a crash. This increases the risk of head injuries.
Bell Sports hasn’t received any reports of incidents or injuries involving the helmet.
The company expects around 11,000 units to become affected by the recall.
What is the Affected Product?
This specific recall involves the Bell Slope adult bicycle helmets. Users can identify them via an inner sticker. The model name and B1161X are on the sticker.
The recall only affects the adult-sized helmets. They come in light blue and dark green hues.
The helmets were then offered at Target, Fred Meyer, and Academy stores. The Slope helmets were also on sale in other stores across the country. They were also on sale on various websites from January through April 2023. The helmets retailed for around $30.
What Can You Do?
Bell Sports is advising consumers to stop using the Slope adult helmets. They should also contact Bell Sports and ask for a refund.
The helmet owner will have to destroy the helmet. They will have to cut off the straps. They also have to upload photos of the helmet with the cut straps as proof. They can send the photos to consumersupport-bell@bellhelmets.com. They can then dispose of the item once they do this.
Consumers can also contact the company at (800) 456-2355. They can call from 8 AM to 5 PM (CT) Mondays to Fridays.
They can also send an email to consumersupport-bell@bellhelmets.com. They can also check the company’s website for more details about the recall.
