Bose Corporation has issued a voluntary recall of its bass modules. The company said it is recalling around a million units of its bass speakers. The recall covers the Acoustimass, Companion, and Lifestyle bass speakers. The affected speakers were all produced before April 2006.
The company said the speaker’s electrical components could fail. It could become a fire hazard when this happens.
Bose has already received 21 incident reports of speakers igniting or melting. Three of those cases resulted in fires that caused property damage. The reports revealed there was damage done to the carpeting. The material of the bass box and an entertainment cabinet were also damaged.
What Was the Affected Product?
The Bose recall covers certain bass modules manufactured before April 1, 2006. These were reportedly bundled with some of the company’s home theater systems.
The Bose logo and product name are on the product label. It also included the serial number and date code. You can find the label on either the bottom or the back of the module.

The bass module speakers were reportedly manufactured in the U.S., Ireland, and Mexico. They were then offered at top electronics stores across the country. It was also sold online at www.Bose.com.
What Can Consumers Do?
Bose is advising consumers to stop using the recalled bass speakers. They should also unplug the modules and call Bose. The company will arrange for free repairs. Consumers also have the option to get a replacement product with a 40% discount.
