Chrysler has issued a voluntary recall of its Ram 1500 pickup trucks. The vehicle is from the 2021 model year with the 5.7L HEMI V-8. It’s with eTorque engines. The company expects around 131,700 units of trucks will become affected by the recall.
The NHTSA website said the recall is reportedly due to concerns over incorrect fuel mix. The Ram’s software for the Powertrain Control Module could cause a wrong fuel mixture. The condition will impact the engine and could lead to the car stalling. A stalled vehicle has a higher risk of crashing.
Fiat-Chrysler started an investigation over the issue on January 20, 2023. The company said it has received one report about the issue as of March 30. The incident report was on an accident caused by a stalled engine. There were no reported injuries.
Hundreds of Ram 1500 owners have already filed warranty claims. They claim the engines in their Ram pickup trucks are stalling.
What Consumers Should Do
Owners of the Ram 1500 trucks must head to their nearest Chrysler dealer. The dealer will update the calibration software for the Powertrain Control Module. This will resolve the issue. The update is for free.
The company is also set to mail out notification letters. Owners can expect to receive them after June 2, 2023. It will also inform them that they need to contact their dealers. They will need to set appointments for the service of their trucks.
Vehicle owners can also contact Chrysler. Their customer service number is (800) 853-1403. The company has allotted code 37A for this recall.
