Wiers Farm Inc. is recalling its whole and bagged salad cucumbers. The company is also recalling other vegetable products. The move was a response to fears of potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause listeriosis. This is a serious infection with a variety of symptoms. People with listeria could develop fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal issues.
The recall covers a limited number of whole cucumbers with a June 5, 2024 pack date. The Ohio-based company also recalls bagged salad cucumbers with June 5 and 6, 2024 pack dates. Various vegetable products packed between July 5 and 12 are also included.
What are the Affected Products?
The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development identified the issue. The affected products include:
- Whole Cucumbers: 1.5 to 2.5 inches in diameter; 6 to 9 inches in length
- Bagged Salad Cucumbers: 2 pounds; comes in a clear bag with a blue base
- Bagged Poblano: 16 oz bag
- Bagged Green Beans: 16 oz bag
- Bagged Cubanelle: 16 oz bag
- Bagged Serrano: 4 oz bag
- Organic Bell Pepper: 2-count tray
- Organic Cucumber: 2-count tray
- Organic Yellow Squash: 2-count tray
- Organic Zucchini Squash: 2-count tray
Various Walmart stores across Michigan and Ohio carried these products. They were also sold in Indiana.
What Should Consumers Do?
Wiers Farm says the products are already past their shelf life. These shouldn’t be in stores anymore.
