Ducati North America announced a voluntary recall of its Panigale V2 sports motorcycles. These are from the model year 2020 – 2023. The company expects around 3,315 units of the bike will become affected by the recall.
Motorcycles included in this recall are from VIN range ZDMHAATW0LB000230 to ZDMHAATWXPB012777. This is not in sequence.
What is the Issue?
Ducati says the move was due to a defective headlight. The bike’s dashboard could switch without notice. It can move from low-beam headlights to a daylight position lamp (DRL). The change in the headlight appears to happen when in the automatic setting mode.
The sudden switch from low beams to the daylight position light reduces visibility. Especially when riding at night. This poses a crash or injury risk.
The company became aware of the issue after getting incident reports of malfunctions. Ducati began an analysis of the warranty claim. It found that the dashboards of some motorbikes were reportedly replaced. This was because of the defective lights. But the calibration of the photodiode in the dashboard revision was incorrect.
The company implemented a new dashboard software revision to address the problem.
What Can Consumers Do?
Ducati is advising motorcycle owners to head to the nearest authorized dealer. They will update the dashboard’s software for free.
The company is also set to send out owner notification letters by June 20, 2023.
