Duda Farm Fresh Foods has recalled select fresh-cut celery products. The full-service produce grower says there were concerns of potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
Duda Farm Fresh Foods said the move was in tandem with the FDA to ensure consumer safety.
Why was a Recall Issued?
The celery company revealed that a routine product test indicated possible Listeria contamination. The bacteria can cause serious and life-threatening infections. Young children, elderly individuals, and pregnant women are susceptible to Listeria infections. People with weakened immune systems are also vulnerable to Listeria.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause symptoms like fever, muscle aches, diarrhea, and nausea. The infection can spread beyond the gastrointestinal tract in severe cases. It could pose significant health risks, like miscarriage or stillbirth.
Duda Farms hasn’t received any reports of illness connected to the recalled products.
What are the Affected Products?
The recall affects pre-cut and ready-to-eat celery sticks. The products were under the Marketside Celery Sticks label. The recalled celery was in 1.6-ounce packs that held four celery sticks each. These included products supplied to retailers, food service operations, and distributors.
The recalled items were also marked with a “Best If Used By” date of March 23, 2025. The celery sticks were all sold in Walmart Stores in over 20 states.
