The FDA recall of a popular Yellowstone product has shocked consumers. The food watchdog is recalling Yellowstone Brown Sugar Molasses Baked Beans.
Yellowstone’s distributor didn’t include soy, a known allergen, in its ingredient list. Its inclusion could lead to life-threatening symptoms in certain people.
Understanding the Safety Issue
The recall impacts around 4,500 cases of 15-ounce canned beans. FDA’s concern revolves around the possible presence of soy. People allergic or with extreme sensitivity to it could undergo a life-threatening reaction.
The affected products come in 15-ounce cans with a Best-by Date of 2/17/2028. The country’s major retail stores carried these cans.
The Vietti Food Group distributed the products. They send them to Walmart and the Associated Wholesale Grocers chain. The baked beans were also sold at K-VA-T Food Stores, Meijer, and Hy-Vee Supermarkets.
List of States the Recall Affected
Yellowstone Baked Beans were then distributed to Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, and Florida. They were also sold in Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, and Louisiana. Consumers could also buy them in Michigan, Mississippi, and Missouri. New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, and Ohio were also included in the recall. So are the states of Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.
Consumers in these 23 states should double-check their pantries. They should return any affected products found.
What Consumers Can Do
The good news is that the FDA has not received any reports of illnesses or adverse reactions due to beans.
The FDA says consumers who bought the recalled beans should return them to their place of sale. They’ll get a full refund for doing so.
