Fisher-Price has recalled over two million Snuga infant swings due to suffocation hazards. There were five reported infant fatalities between 2012 and 2022. The victims’ ages ranged from one to three months.
The babies slept in the swing but were not restrained. Bedding materials were reportedly added to the swing.
What are the Recalled Products?
Fisher-Price recalled all models of the Snuga Swings. All 21 models have the same core design. The swings come in various fabric colors and toy accessories.
The Snuga Swing is an infant swing with front-to-back and side-to-side motions. It has a 90-degree rotation and two-seat recline positions. The swing is foldable for easy storage.
Experts say the swing isn’t designed as a sleeping surface for infants. Consumers should never add bedding materials to the swing. Babies sleeping in the swing are in danger of suffocation. The headrest, body support insert, and the addition of bedding materials pose a risk.
The recall affects around 2.1 million Snuga Swings sold in the US since 2010. There are an estimated 99,000 swings sold in Canada and around 500 units sold in Mexico.
Stores like Amazon, Toys R Us, and Target offered Snuga Swings. The items were also available at Walmart/Sam’s Club. They were available from October 2010 through January 2024.
What Should Consumers Do?
Fisher-Price says consumers should remove the headrest and the body support insert. They must cut the tether before continuing to use the swing. Consumers who do this can receive a $25 refund. They can find details on what to do at www.service.mattel.com.
