The Ford Motor Company announced it is recalling around 142,734 units of its Lincoln MKCs. The recall covers vehicles with the model year 2015-2019.
Ford says the recall is due to a defective battery display sensor. It could short-circuit and overheat. This could cause the engine compartment to catch fire. This can reportedly happen while the vehicle is on the road or when parked.
A fire in the engine compartment is hazardous and can result in injuries.
What is the Problem?
Ford Motors said the Lincoln MKCs’ engine compartment is susceptible to spontaneous fire. The automaker said the luxury SUV’s battery display sensor might have become damaged. This could have happened when technicians worked on it.
The battery sensor is under the hood. A short circuit of the sensor could overheat the materials around it. It could become hot enough to set fire to the materials. This can happen anytime, whether the vehicle’s parked or in use.
Ford already received 19 incident reports of under-the-hood fires. This could be due to the issue with the battery sensor. It’s fortunate that there were no reported accidents or injuries.
What Can Consumers Do?
Ford Motors is advising owners to park their vehicles outside. This will ensure that their homes or any property remain safe until they deal with the issue.
The company also wants owners to head to the nearest Ford dealer. An in-line fuse will become integrated into the battery display sensor power circuit. This is a free service.
Ford will also send owner notification letters by June 26, 2026.
Vehicle owners can also contact Ford’s customer service number at (866) 436-7332. They can use the code 23S28 for this recall.
