The Ford Motor Company has issued a voluntary recall of its Transit van. The company states that 4,804 units of Transit’s 2023 model are part of the recall.
The affected Transit vans have a Special Vehicle Accessory Service Kit. It comes in models #1 and #2. The kit also comes with a High Specification Vehicle Interface Connector.
The company stated that the vehicle’s HVAC System defogger could malfunction. It can happen if the accessory kit is also installed. The kit’s auxiliary wire harness can disable the HVAC system. This includes the defog and defrosting systems.
A malfunctioning defogging and defrosting system will affect the driver’s visibility. It can also increase the risk of car accidents under some driving conditions.
This is not the first time the Transit van exhibited problems. Ford also recalled around 2,000 units of the 2023 model a month ago. The recall had to do with a fuel tank issue. The tank’s grade vent valve was not welded well to the fuel tank.
The improper welding was due to the thermocouple on the welder hot plate. It was not installed well after regular maintenance. The hot plate temperature was beyond the specific point. This means material adhesion was not enough. The risk of a fuel leak prompted Ford to issue the recall.
What Should Consumers Do?
Transit vehicle owners are now advised to head to the nearest Ford dealership. The dealers will check the auxiliary wire harness. They will also repair or replace it when needed. This is free of charge.
The company is set to mail notification letters by March 20, 2023.
Van owners can also reach out to Ford at (866) 436-7332. The number for this recall is 23C02.
