The Ford Motor Company has issued a recall that will affect an estimated 120,000 crossovers in the US. The automaker revealed this was due to a problem with the rear brake linings.
Ford said the recall affects vehicles like the 2020 – 2022 Ford Bronco Sport and Ford Escape models. Assembly plants in Louisville (Kentucky) and Hermosillo (Mexico) manufactured the recalled vehicles. Assembly occurred between November 2, 2020, and November 16, 2021.
Understanding the Issue
Ford said there were issues with the rear brake linings. The linings came from Continental Automotive Mexicana. Ford said the brake linings might not have met the required performance standards.
The recalled vehicles also have a brake vacuum booster without a vacuum sensor. Ford designed this to compensate for changes in brake pad friction. If the booster malfunctions, braking performance would go down. This makes it more likely that something bad will happen.
The recall was started by the well-known car company. It did this after realizing that the brake pieces didn’t always perform the same way.
What the Company is Doing About the Recall
Ford fixed the first fault in prior recalls. It later discovered that some 2020 model year Escape crossovers were not included. Ford says the recalled models were all built at the Louisville Assembly Plant.
The vehicles will have their rear brake pads replaced as a precautionary measure. The updated brake linings feature a higher-friction design, this improving its braking capability.
The company is advising vehicle owners to head to the nearest Ford dealership. Ford has notified dealers on the recall procedures. The company sent out customer notification last October 28, 2025.
Owners can check whether their vehicles are part of the recall. They can enter their VIN in Ford’s official consumer website.
