The Ford Motor Company has issued a voluntary recall of its Rangers and Super Duty F-250 trucks. The company is also recalling specific Bronco SUVs. The company says the vehicle’s weight rating label is incorrect. This increases the risk of a vehicular crash.
The car manufacturer is recalling Ford Rangers with the 2019 – 2023 model year and the 2023 F-250s. The affected Broncos are from the 2022 – 2023 model year. The company says around 29,607 vehicles are now affected by the recall.
What is the Issue?
The vehicles recalled by Ford are in the US. The company says there’s an issue with their Tire and Loading Information (TREAD) labels. These display the wrong load-carrying capacity. Drivers could end up overloading their vehicles.
An overloaded vehicle has a higher risk of getting into a vehicular accident.
Ford noted a nominal base curb weight value was then used for its impact models. It’s to calculate the vehicle’s payload. But it didn’t consider the weight variabilities between vehicles. This can happen during manufacturing. The wrong values were thus entered into their systems and caused the error.
What Can Consumers Do?
Ford is set to notify its registered dealerships about the recall on June 30, 2023. The company will also send out notification letters by July 5, 2023.
Vehicle owners can opt to have a new TREAD label mailed to them for free. They can then cover the existing label with it.
Owners can also bring their vehicle to their dealer and let them install the new label. This is a free service.
Vehicle owners can also contact Ford’s customer service at (866) 436-7332. They can use the code 23C18 for this recall.
