The Ford Motor Company has issued a voluntary recall of about a million of its SUVs and popular trucks. The vehicle’s owner’s manual is missing instructions on adjusting head restraints.
The company said the recall involves Ford Expeditions. Lincoln Navigators with third-row seating are also involved. These are from the 2018 – 2023 model years. The recall also covers the Super Duty F-250s, F-350s, F-450s, and F-550s. The F-600 SuperCabs and the regular cab vehicles are also included. These are all from the model years 2019 – 2023.
The recall includes all 37 configurations or model-year vehicles sold at those times. Ford believes the issue will affect 979,797 vehicles.
Understanding the Issue
Ford reported that the owner’s manuals with the recalled vehicles are incomplete. The manuals do not have instructions on how to adjust or remove certain head restraints. These are all required under federal safety regulations.
An NHTSA report said Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group found out about the misstep back in May. Investigation revealed the missing details were because of human error.
The lack of instructions means head restraints might not become adjusted well. This increases the risk of injuries during a crash.
What Can Consumers Do?
Ford Motors will mail the Owner’s Manual addendums to specific vehicle owners. These will explain how to adjust the head restraints for the center seating. The manuals are free.
The car manufacturer will also send out owner notification letters by July 10, 2023.
Vehicle owners can also get in touch with Ford’s customer service at (866) 436-7332. Consumers can use the code 23C20 for this recall.
