The Ford Motor Company has announced a voluntary recall of its F-150 BEVs. The company expects 16,375 units of the model year 2022 – 2023 pickup will become affected by the recall.
A safety report noted that the F-150 BEV’s rear light bar might have micro-cracks in its outer lens. It can cause moisture to accumulate on the lens. The moisture could result in the fixture shorting out. It can then cause the lights to flicker. It can also lead to inoperative reverse lights.
Other drivers might not realize the vehicle is reversing. The inoperative or flickering lights could cause confusion. This then increases the odds of a crash or injuries happening.
This isn’t the first time Ford has recalled this pickup truck model. The company also recalled 18 F-150 Lightning trucks back in March. The vehicles reportedly had a defective battery cell. The issue reportedly caused one truck to catch fire.
It only affected a small number of vehicles. These were the ones already delivered to customers. The company had to suspend production and stopped shipments.
What Can Consumers Do?
The company is advising vehicle owners to head to the nearest licensed dealership. The dealer will then replace the rear light bar. This is free of charge.
The company is also set to send out owner notification letters by June 2023.
Vehicle owners can also call Ford’s customer service department at (866) 436-7332. They can use the code 23S30 for this particular recall.
Consumers can also contact the NHTSA at 888-327-4236. They can also check www.nhtsa.gov and see if their car is among the recalled vehicles. The agency identifier code is 23V418.
