The Ford Motor Company has issued a recall of around 273,789 SUVs. The company says brake fluid could leak over the brake lines and reach the engine air cleaner. This could cause accidents.
The car manufacturer says the issue affects 223,315 Ford Expeditions from 2022 to 2024. It also affects 50,474 units of the 2022 to 2024 Lincoln Navigator.
The company believes only one percent of the recalled vehicles are defective.
Breaking Down the Issue
Vehicles produced at Ford’s Kentucky plant could have damaged front brake lines. Reports say the brake lines could’ve bent during the engine installation. The issue could cause the line to come into contact with the engine air cleaner outlet pipe. This could lead to brake fluid leak or a complete loss of brake function.
Ford has already received 45 warranty reports related to leaking front brake lines. There are no reported accidents or injuries attributed to the defect.
What Consumers Can Do
Ford Motors says vehicle owners should go to their Ford or Lincoln dealership. The dealers will check the front brake lines and replace them if needed. The same goes for the air cleaner outlet pipe. This service is free of charge.
The company is set to mail out notification letters from May 26 to May 30.
Ford and Lincoln owners can also check if their vehicles are part of the recall. They can visit https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls and check via the recall lookup tool. They can use reference number 25S47.
There are several warning signs drivers can watch out for. Drivers of affected vehicles might experience an increase in brake pedal travel. They might have to press the pedal harder to stop the vehicle. They should also pay attention to the brake warning indicator. It will light up if fluid levels drop.
