The Ford Motor Company has announced another massive recall. This time, the issue covers 1,456,417 vehicles from model years 2015 through 2019. The company is recalling thousands of vehicles due to defective rearview cameras.
The affected models include the Ranger and F-250 through F-550 Super Duty trucks. The recall also impacts Econoline, Transit, Transit Connect vans, and Mustang vehicles. Several Ford and Lincoln SUVs and crossovers are also included in the recall. These vehicles were built between June 2014 and December 2018.
Understanding the Root of the Problem
The issue stems from Magna-supplied cameras. A sub-supplier made an unauthorized change to the printed circuit board header tooling. This lowered the forces that made contact with the terminal, which led to fretting corrosion over time.
Because of this, the affected cars may show visuals that are distorted or turned upside down. This issue increases the risk of accidents.
Investigation and Reported Cases
Ford began investigating the problem on April 3, 2025, after receiving widespread complaints. The company has already received 44,123 warranty claims and 195 owner questionnaires. There are 18 accident reports linked to the defect. There are no reported injuries yet.
What Vehicle Owners Can Do
Ford says they’ll replace the rearview camera with one built to proper specifications. Ford and Lincoln dealerships will do the repairs for free.
The company is asking owners of 2015 – 2019 Ford and Lincoln models to check if they’re affected by the recall. Owners can do this by checking their VIN on the company’s recall website. The VINs of affected models are already uploaded.
Owners should also schedule a repair appointment once parts are available. Ford dealers were already notified of the issue on September 8, 2025. Ford is set to send out official recall notices from September 22 to September 28, 2025.
