Hyundai Motor America has announced a massive recall of Palisade SUVs. The recall affects 568,580 units sold in the U.S. between April 10, 2019, and June 16, 2025.
Hyundai says they’re recalling the SUVs due to substandard seatbelt buckles. These might fail to latch properly, thus becoming a serious safety risk.
Understanding the Issue
The automobile maker has identified the issue. The faulty seatbelt buckles were from Hyundai supplier ZF LIFETEC. They contain internal components manufactured the wrong way by a tier-2 supplier, Microtech.
Reports noted that a defective injection molding process is to blame. It caused parts to interfere with the latch channel. This created excess friction. As a result, the buckle might not fully latch. This increases the risk of injury in a crash.
Hyundai launched an investigation in 2024. They did so after receiving customer complaints of poor latching performance. The company has already received 546 reports of degraded buckle performance. The problem was traced back to Microtech’s out-of-spec manufacturing process.
What Consumers Can Do
Hyundai and ZF updated the latch guide supplier in July 2025 to prevent further issues. Hyundai announced that its dealers will replace the defective seatbelt buckles. This doesn’t cost anything.
By November 10, 2025, Hyundai dealers will start changing parts.
The business expects to send out letters to customers on the same day. Once they get the notice, owners can set up repairs.
The company is also advising owners of 2020 – 2025 Palisade SUVs to check if they’re affected by the recall. They can do this by verifying their VIN on Hyundai’s recall website.
