Hyundai is recalling 65,517 SUVs and Sedans from its line of luxury vehicles. These cars include the model year 2020-2023 Genesis GV80s and 2021-2023 Genesis G80s. There are also the model year 2022-2023 Genesis GV70s and model year 2023 Genesis GV60s.
The Korean automaker discovered an issue with the cars’ seat belt pretensioner. A seat belt pretensioner is a mechanism that tightens the belt during a crash. Reports say it is possible that the seat belt pretensioner will explode after a crash. It may deploy in certain crashes due to over-pressurization. This can result in metal fragments entering the vehicle occupant compartment. Thus, resulting in injury to the occupants of the car.
What To Do
Owners of the cars mentioned above may contact any authorized Hyundai dealers. They should bring their cars to a Genesis dealer so they can check the seat belt pretensioner. The dealers will secure their micro gas generator and delivery pipe with a cap. This way, it can prevent a potential rupture that could release shrapnel. Thus, preventing possible abrasions or other injuries to passengers.
