Chrysler is doing another recall of its Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators. The reason remains the same, and the company still hasn’t found a solution to the issue.
The company is expecting to recall 69,201 vehicles. The affected Jeep Wranglers are models from the years 2018 to 2023. Meanwhile, Gladiator pickup trucks with the model year 2020 to 2023 are also affected.
What’s the Issue?
The problem is an old one. Chrysler recalled the manual Gladiators and Wranglers in 2020. This was due to clutch pressure plates overheating. The plates would fracture as well. It was reportedly resolved by installing software that reduced engine torque.
The current recall is for the same problem. The components of an overheated clutch could cause a fire. There’s also a danger of nearby components becoming damaged. Debris could fall on the road. It could also cause a loss of drive, which could lead to a crash.
Chrysler is aware that there are already many claims and reports about the issue. So far, there’s been 26 customer help records and 36 claims warranty. Six field reports were also made. There are no reports of crashes related to the issue. But there’s reportedly one injury.
What’s the Next Step
There’s no fix offered at the moment. But the company assures consumers a solution is under development now.
Cars repaired due to the previous recall will also need to complete the new remedy. Jeep Chrysler is set to send out notifications on April 14.
