Kawasaki has issued a safety recall for certain motorcycles over a manufacturing defect. The multinational company says the clutch release shaft wasn’t welded properly. This could result in clutch failure while riding.
The defective clutch release shaft also poses a serious safety risk. The lever could break or might not disengage. A malfunctioning clutch could result in a sudden loss of power. It also makes it harder to control the bike, thus increasing the risk of accidents.
What are the Affected Models?
Kawasaki Motors’ recall notice states it’s recalling certain 2024 Ninja 500 models. These are the ABS, KRT Edition, KRT Edition SE ABS, SE ABS, and the SE 40th Anniversary Edition ABS. The recall also covers the Z500 ABS and the Z500 SE ABS models.
The company advises owners to check their VIN to determine if their bike is part of the recall. Kawasaki says 3,742 motorcycle units are being recalled.
Motorcycle owners should watch out for warning signs. They should be on the lookout for any difficulty in shifting gears. Unusual noises from the clutch area could also mean a problem. Riders should also be wary of a sudden loss of power while riding.
Riders must stop using the motorcycle if any of these symptoms occur. They should also contact a Kawasaki dealership and schedule an inspection.
What Owners Should Do Next
Kawasaki advises motorcycle owners to head to the nearest dealership. Dealers will inspect and replace the faulty clutch release shaft at no cost to owners.
Riders can verify their recall status by visiting Kawasaki’s official recall website. They can call the company’s customer support at 1-866-802-9381.
The company is set to send out notification letters by March 24.
Kawasaki is urging affected motorcycle owners to schedule a repair appointment. They should do it as soon as possible to avoid potential accidents caused by clutch failure.
