Mercedes-Benz has announced it is recalling C300s sedans from the model year 2022 to 2023. The 2023 AMG C43 is also covered by this move. The company has uncovered an issue that can lead to a loss in drive power. Around 8,178 units of these models could become affected by the recall.
A report states the sedans could experience issues with their transmission wiring harness. These might have an incorrect length.
The company states the transmission wiring harness could scrape on the front driveshaft. This can damage the wiring harness and cause the vehicle to lose propulsion. The problem reportedly occurred at the supplier.
Drivers faced with this problem won’t get any advance warning. But they might see warning messages like “Transmission Malfunction Stop.” Or they might see “Drive Malfunction Stop Restart Vehicle.”
Losing drive power can increase the risk of a vehicle crash.
There have been no reports of incidents related to the issue so far.
This is the second recall involving both vehicles. An earlier recall for the C300 and the AMG C43 was because of faulty wiring. The connections for the electrical wiring harness were reportedly not secured. The issue could cause the wiring to overheat. It might even result in the vehicle catching fire.
What Can Consumers Do?
The company is advising vehicle owners to head to the nearest licensed dealer. The dealer will inspect the transmission wiring harness routing. They will also repair it if needed. This is free of charge.
Mercedes-Benz is also set to send out owner notification letters. Mailing is set before August 29, 2023.
Vehicle owners can also call the company’s customer service at (800) 367-6373.
