Dodge Dart owners across the US had an unpleasant surprise over a surprising recall. Dodge’s parent company Stellantis has issued a major recall for the model.
A report stated that Stellantis is recalling around 298,439 Dart sedans. This is due to defective shifter cables. The affected sedans are at greater risk of experiencing a rollaway.
This particular recall involves the 2013 to 2016 model years. The recall covers Dart sedans produced between February 2012 and October 2016.
Understanding the Issue
Stellantis stated that the issue stems from a possible failure of shifter cables. According to an NHTSA report, the defective cables could cause transmission problems. It might not match the gear selected by the driver. This increases the risk of a rollaway when the car appears to be in “Park.” The defective cables were all supplied by Dura Automotive Systems.
Aside from the sedans, Stellantis’ Mopar division is also recalling over 32,000 cables. The company earmarked them as replacement parts.
A Recurring Issue Since 2018
Stellantis first investigated this issue back in October 2018. The company then recalled Dart vehicles in 2019. At the time, technicians replaced the original cable bushing with a stronger version. But new complaints surfaced in June 2025. These came from customers who had already received the fix.
Drivers also reported misadjusted or detached shifter cables, which prompted a renewed investigation. It also led to this second recall.
Next Steps for Owners
Stellantis revealed it has received 560 warranty claims related to this condition. There were claims filed from 2019 through 2025.
The company is still developing a new remedy for this old issue. Stellantis is set to send out owner notification letters in November 2025.
The auto manufacturer says owners to wait for official communications from them. They should also check with their local dealer for updates on repair schedules.
