Stellantis is recalling a limited number of Ram trucks from the 2021 and 2022 model years. The affected vehicles are those built between November 2020 and December 2022.
The recall is due to steering column control modules (SCCMs) with insufficient welding. This could prevent the driver’s airbag from deploying in the event of a crash.
Understanding the Issue
There is an inadequate weld between the busbar and the flexible flat cable. Drivers can find these inside the steering column control module. This might interrupt the signal sent from the occupant restraint controller. If that signal does not reach the driver airbag module, the airbag may fail to deploy during a collision. If partial separation occurs, the airbag warning light on the dashboard will light up. This will alert the driver to a potential problem.
The recall applies to several truck models and configurations. This includes the following:
- Ram 1500 Classic
- Ram 2500
- Ram 3500
- Ram 4500
Of the four models, the Ram 1500 Classic is the only one that’s no longer in production.
What Consumers Can Do
Stellantis is advising Ram owners to head to their nearest dealership. Ram dealers will replace all suspect steering column control modules. The updated units will have properly welded flexible flat cable-to-busbar assemblies. The repair of the affected trucks is free of charge once the recall campaign begins.
Stellantis scheduled the official recall launch for the fourth quarter of 2025. The company made sure that dealerships would have enough replacement modules available.
Stellantis is set to mail out customer notification letters on December 11, 2025. Owners are also encouraged to check if their truck is part of the recall. They can head to the Mopar consumer website to see if their VINs are part of the recall. This information was already uploaded to the website.
