Subaru of America has issued a voluntary recall of its Crosstrek Hybrid AWD vehicles. The company says there are issues with its battery.
The recall affects 8.413 units of the 2019-2022 Crosstrek Hybrid SUVs.
What’s the Problem?
The company says there is a possible issue with the harness terminal. This supplies low-voltage power from the converter to the 12-volt battery. The harness might corrode and break. This will prevent the battery from charging.
A battery that cannot recharge can result in a drive power loss. This increases the risk of a vehicle crash.
Subaru explained that battery cables exposed to common road salt could corrode. It noted the problem only affects Crosstrek Hybrid models built before April 2022. The company has since rolled out a new battery mounting bracket. The new feature protects the wiring harness.
What’s the Solution?
Vehicle owners are now advised to head to the nearest Subaru dealership. Dealers will provide a replacement for the converter terminal bracket mount. The bracket’s new design can help resolve the problem.
If corrosion is present, the dealer will replace the harness and terminal. Any repairs they will do for free.
Subaru is also set to mail notification letters by April 14, 2023.
Owners can also reach out to the company’s customer service number at (844) 373-6614. The recall number for the Crosstrek is WRD-23.
Many car owners are unaware of past recalls. This can put them at risk of accidents. Subaru owners can check if their car is also affected by a recall. They can check the company’s website and look for its recall center.
