Tesla has issued a recall for 27,185 Cybertruck vehicles due to the rearview camera display. This marks the model’s fifth recall since its debut in 2023.
Understanding the Problem
Tesla reports the recall aims to fix a problem where the rearview camera screen goes blank. This can happen for up to eight seconds as the vehicle shifts into reverse.
The delay doesn’t meet US policy on camera images. Federal safety law mandates camera images appear within two seconds. The delayed rearview image reduces what a driver sees behind their vehicle. It also raises the risk of accidents.
Tesla hasn’t received any reports of injuries or crashes related to the issue.
The recall covers 2024 Cybertrucks manufactured between Nov. 13, 2023, and Sept. 14, 2024. Tesla says these vehicles are working within a specific software logic. The software is for low-voltage hardware.
Another Day, Another Problem
This isn’t the first time Tesla has recalled the Cybertruck. The divisive vehicle has been problematic since its debut in December 2023.
Tesla recalled the SUV in February due to the antilock brake system warning light. The second recall was in April due to a faulty accelerator pedal. Elon Musk’s company issued two recalls in June due to loose trim pieces and faulty windshield wipers.
What Consumers Should Do
Tesla will issue a free software update to correct the issue. Cybertruck owners will receive an official notice with instructions before November ends.
