Chrysler has issued a recall of its Ram pickup trucks. The recall covers the 2023 model Ram 1500 Classics, the Ram 3500 Classics, and the 3500 Cab Chassis. It also affects the Ram 2500s, the 4500/5500 Cab Chassis, and the Ram 3500s. These are all from the model year 2023-2024. The company says the recall will impact 142,150 units of this popular pickup truck.
What’s the Issue?
Chrysler revealed a problem with the Ram pickup truck’s steering column. Its control module could activate the high beams when the driver uses the turn signal. The defect could also cause the turn signal to activate if the driver uses the high beams.
There are also concerns about the turn signal self-canceling feature. There are reports the feature isn’t functioning the way the company designed it.
Documents show that the steering column module might have the wrong component. Its production might have used an out-of-specification turn signal component.
An issue with the turn signals and/or high beams is dangerous. A malfunction can reduce its visibility to drivers and other road users. Drivers can also become confused. The risk of an accident then becomes higher.
What Can Drivers Do?
Chrysler is advising vehicle owners to head to their nearest dealership. The dealer will inspect the steering column control. They will also replace the module free of charge if necessary.
The company will also send notification letters to RAM pickup truck owners. These are set for mailing by January 17, 2024.Vehicle owners can also reach out to Chrysler’s customer service. The number is (800) 853-1403. They can use the code B2A for this recall.
