Tesla recently announced a physical recall of its Model Y SUVs. There are an estimated 3,470 units of the vehicle out on the market at the moment.
The company issued the recall over concerns about its seat belt system. There are reports that the second-row seat backs of some units have not fastened in the proper way. This will reduce the effectiveness of the seat belt system.
The Model Y recall requires a visit to a Tesla service center. It can’t become resolved via over-the-air software enhancements.
What are the Affected Units?
The Model Y units in question were reportedly manufactured from May 23, 2022, to February 5, 2023. Not all the vehicles made and released during that period have become affected. Tesla says about four percent of the units have issues.
Model Y owners will receive a notification from the NHTSA about the recall. But owners also have the option to check if they’re affected by the issue now. They can download the Tesla app to get a notice about the recall. They can also check their car’s VIN on the company’s website. The site also has a page listing recall numbers.
What Should Vehicle Owners Do?
Tesla Model Y owners should bring their cars to the company’s service centers. The center’s mechanics will check the seat belt system. They will also tighten the bolts if necessary. This is a free service for clients.
Vehicle owners who don’t have time to go to the service center can opt for a Mobile Service visit. They can schedule a visit using the company’s website. Owners will soon receive a letter notifying them of the issue. The notifications are set to become mailed by April 25, 2023.
Owners can also call the company’s customer service number (877) 798-3752. The number for this recall is SB-23-13-001.
