Chrysler has announced a recall of its Jeep Grand Cherokees and Grand Cherokee Ls. The recall impacts the Grand Cherokees with model years 2022 – 2023. Meanwhile, the recalled Grand Cherokee Ls have the model year 2021 – 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ls. The company expects the recall to affect 331,000 vehicles.
A safety report revealed rear coil springs installed in the new models had problems. The improper installation can cause the springs to detach while the vehicle is in use. It’s a dangerous situation as it increases the risk of a crash happening.
The issue first came to Chrysler’s notice when a vehicle owner reported a coil spring falling off. They were driving a 2023 Grand Cherokee. This prompted the company to begin looking into the issue on March 3.
There have been no reported injuries caused by the rear coil springs issue. But Chrysler has received 17 warranty claims after it concluded its investigation. The company also received two customer help records. There were drivers who experienced problems related to the recalled part.
The new recall comes on the heels of a previous issue involving the Grand Cherokee. That recall was due to the improper installation of steering columns. It affected the 2021-2023 models of said vehicle.
What Can Consumers Do?
