Summertime and the living isn’t easy for many Blue Bell Ice Cream fans. Blue Bell Creameries has recalled its Moo-llennium Crunch ice cream.
The company is recalling one lot of this popular ice cream due to incorrect packaging labels. The error could create dangerous situations for consumers with food allergies.
Moo-llennium Crunch ice cream was being sold nationwide at major retailers. You can find tubs of this product in Walmart, Kroger, Publix, Target, and Food Lion.
The Mislabeling Problem
The affected product comes in 64-ounce tubs with a Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough label. But they actually contain Moo-llennium Crunch ice cream.
The tubs do carry Moo-llennium Crunch lids, but the labeling mismatch is serious. It’s because the two flavors have very different ingredients.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough does not contain tree nuts such as almonds, walnuts, or pecans. It’s why the packaging doesn’t list them as allergens. But Moo-llennium Crunch does contain these nuts. This creates a risk of life-threatening allergic reactions for people with nut allergies. They’re unaware that they’re buying ice cream with nuts.
Breaking Down the Affected Lot and Distribution
The recall applies to tubs with lot number 061027524 printed on the lid. Blue Bell distributed the products in the following areas:
- Florida Panhandle
- Northwest Georgia
- Missouri
- Kentucky
- Mississippi
- Texas
- Alabama
- Arkansas
- Southern Indiana
- Southern Illinois
- Kansas
- Louisiana
- New Mexico
- Oklahoma
- Tennessee
- Southwest Virginia
