The Ford Motor Company has issued a major safety recall that impacts over 312,000 vehicles.
The automaker says the recall centers on the Electronic Brake Booster (EBB) module. The EBB on certain Ford and Lincoln models enters into a faulted state during driving. It’s more likely to happen in units using advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). This could increase the risk of accidents.
Understanding the Problem
NHTSA documents revealed a problem with Ford’s electronic brake booster module. The EBB could malfunction and shut off. This could happen while the vehicle is in motion or while using a driver-assist system (ADAS).
The vehicle could lose its brake boost if the EBB malfunctions. If this happens, the stopping distance increases and raises the risk of a crash.
Drivers will experience illuminated ABS, ESC, and brake lights on the dashboard. There will be an audible alert, and the driver will feel changes in the brake pedal. Turning the engine off and restarting it will resolve the issue.
What are the Affected Vehicles?
Ford says the recall affects the following 2025 models:
- Lincoln Navigator (7,104 units)
- Ford Ranger (20,552 units)
- Ford Bronco (39,913 units)
- Ford Expedition (26,582 units)
- Ford F-150 (217,969 units)
The company says it expects the defective units to be around 1% only.
What Can Consumers Do?
Ford says the faulty EBB module does not need physical replacement. A free software update will correct the issue. Ford and Lincoln are preparing over-the-air (OTA) updates for affected vehicles.
Vehicle owners are also advised to head to their nearest dealer for free repairs.
Ford has also mailed out notification letters. Vehicle owners can also check if they’re affected by the recall. The company says owners can search their VIN on the NHTSA website. They can also call Ford’s customer service at 1-866-436-7332. The recall number is 25S77.
