General Motors has issued a recall of its Chevrolet Equinox from the 2021 and 2022 model years. It’s also recalling the 2022 models of its GMC Terrain cars. The company expects the recall to affect 23,164 units.
GM has recalled the models due to a fuel pump issue. The company stated in a report that one supplier implemented a change that wasn’t authorized. The change in the fuel pump design means some of the SUVs might have the wrong pump.
The report also stated the fuel pump module might not provide enough fuel to the engine. The inconsistent supply could result in the engine stalling while in motion. This increases the risk of accidents happening. The issue could also prevent the vehicle from starting.
Drivers might also see the check engine light activating as the issue develops. But the problem could also happen without any warning. This isn’t the first recall done on these models. GM also recalled the Equinox and Terrain vehicles last year. There was an issue with a loose bolt on the driver’s seat.
What Steps Should You Take?
Car recalls happen more often than expected. Most vehicles will face this situation at some point. Automobile makers like GM will ensure car owners are always notified about the issue.
The company is advising vehicle owners to head to the nearest GM dealership. The dealer will install a new fuel pump module. This will become done free of charge.
Owners can also call Chevrolet’s toll-free number at (800) 222-1020. They can also get in touch with the GMC customer service group at (800) 462-8782. The GM recall number is N222372310.
There’s no guarantee that GM will be able to notify everyone who bought the recalled models. Consumers should check the company’s recall center if they’re unsure if their car is also affected.
