Kido Sports Co., Ltd has issued a voluntary recall of 47,582 helmets. Reports say the helmets do not follow federal safety standards.
The helmet manufacturer is recalling Scorpion EXO Covert X and Harley-Davidson HD-X07 models. The helmets are in sizes XS, S, and M. The recall also covers Large, XL, and 2XL-sized helmets.
The Korea-based company says there’s a chance the helmets don’t remain secure when fastened. This means it doesn’t follow Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard policies. Helmets that are not securely fastened can detach or come loose. This increases the risk of injuries during a crash.
The NHTSA identified the problem after doing some testing. The organization tested Kido Sports helmets back in February 2023. A random sample test showed that two of the four Covert X helmets tested were non-compliant.
The Covert X helmets were reportedly produced between September 2021 and January 2024. Production for the HD-X07 helmets was between July 2021 and February 2024.
This is the first time Kido Sports has recalled any of its products.
