The Honda Motor Co. has issued a voluntary recall of over a million vehicles. This extensive recall covers the Odyssey, Passport, and Pilot vehicles. The company has pinpointed Odyssey minivans with model years 2018 – 2023. The recall also involves Passport SUVs with model years 2019 – 2023 and the 2019 – 2022 Pilots.
Honda reported the image from the rearview camera might not appear on the dashboard. This is because of a defective Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST). It has a faulty communication coaxial cable connector.
The rearview camera failing to display an image will lessen what the driver can see on the back. This could increase the risks of vehicle crashes and passenger injuries.
Honda hasn’t received any reports of accidents or injuries related to the issue.
The problem with the rear camera image is an old one. Honda already extended the warranty of affected models back in 2021. The company received over 273,870 warranty claims over the rearview camera issue.
What Can Consumers Do?
Honda is requesting vehicle owners to head to the nearest licensed dealership. The dealers will replace the cable harness of the media systems transport. They will also install a straightening cover. This will cover the vehicle cable connector. This is a free service.
The company will also be sending out owner notification letters by July 24, 2023.
Vehicle owners can also call the company’s customer service number at (888) 234-2138. The codes for this recall are EEL and ZEM. They can also use the NHTSA’s campaign code. It’s 23V431000 for this particular recall.
