Nissan North America has called for a voluntary recall of its Rogue and Pathfinder SUVs. The company’s luxury division, Infiniti, has also recalled the QV60. The vehicles are all 2023 models. The company expects about 12,400 units to become affected by the move. 400 of those units are reportedly in Canada.
Nissan is recalling the mid-sized vehicles over concern with the driver’s seat. A report provided by the company indicated their concerns. They’re afraid seats might not be 100% secured to their frame. This can result in the seat frame’s welds separating from the rear inboard bracket.
The issue is dangerous since there are no warning signs. The driver will have no way of knowing there’s a problem. A seat with damaged welds might not hold an occupant in an accident. It increases the odds of the occupant becoming injured. It could even result in a fatality.
What Should Consumers Do
Owners of the affected vehicles are now asked to head to the nearest Nissan dealer. A technician will inspect the seats. They will check the rail clearance of the driver’s seat. They will assess the distance between the rail of the driver’s seat and the inner bracket. The dealer will replace the cushion frame if needed. The entire process will reportedly take around two hours or less.
The service will be free of charge.
Nissan is set to notify owners about the defect by June 10, 2023.
