Platinum Health has recalled around 53,000 LumaRail Bed Assist Rails. The decision went out after a reported death at a Pennsylvania nursing home.
The bed rails are reportedly an entrapment and asphyxia risk. The user can become trapped inside the rail. There’s also the danger of becoming caught between the mattress and the rail. This was the case of an 81-year-old resident.
Reports stated that the man was then trapped between the portable bed rail and his mattress. This led to his death from positional asphyxia. The incident happened back in October 2021.
What are the Affected Products?
Platinum Health is recalling its Bed Assist Rails with Legs (PHB4000). The Free Standing Bed Assist Rail and the DoubleSafe Bed Assist Rail are also recalled. These are the PHB6000 and PHB7000D.
The bed rails are also constructed from white metal tubing. These have a black or gray rubber grip. Some models come with a black fabric pouch. The rails also have a light mount. It’s located below the handle grip.
