Sunny Dell Foods have issued a voluntary recall of its popular Rao’s Homemade Brand. The recall targets Rao’s Roasted Red Peppers with Portobello Mushrooms. The company made the decision after discovering the product could contain pine nuts. The allergen was not declared on the label.
An investigation conducted after the discovery showed the error was accidental. There was an accidental mislabeling during production. People allergic or sensitive to nuts could develop a severe allergic reaction. The company has not received any reports of illnesses about the product.
The Red Peppers with Portobello Mushrooms is the only product affected by the recall. Condiments with a different lot assignment are not included in the issue. Other sauces and soups under Rao’s Homemade Brand are not affected by the recall as well.
It’s not the first time the company has recalled a product due to mislabeling. Sunny Dell also recalled select jars of its soups early this year. It also revolved around an ingredient that was not included on the label.
What are the Affected Products?
The company is recalling the Roasted Red Peppers in 12-ounce glass jars. The jars are also marked with lot number SD21160-03 RPOA. The jar’s lid or cap is also marked with UPC 7 47479 00110 6.
The product was then sold in different retail stores in the Northeast United States. It was also offered online.
What Should Consumers Do?
Consumers allergic or sensitive to pine nuts who bought Rao’s Peppers should not eat it. They are also advised to return it to their point of sale. They will receive a full refund.
