Trek Bicycle Corp. has issued a voluntary recall of its Promax hydraulic disc brakes. The brakes sold are part of Trek bicycles. Is. Its hose could break away from the brake lever. This could pose a crash hazard. The company says around 96,900 Trek bicycles might become affected by the issue.
Trek Bicycle Corp. has gotten 195 incident reports of brake hoses detaching from the lever. The reports were all from the U.S. There have been no reported injuries stemming from the issue.
What are the Affected Products?
The recall affects Trek bicycles with revision 1 of the Promax Solve DSK-925. The Promax F1 DSK-927 is also covered by the recall.
The hydraulic disc brakes were all installed as original equipment. They’re on Trek bicycles with model years 2021, 2022, and 2023. You can check the full list of the recalled models here.
The serial numbers are also printed on a sticker found under the bike frame.
The disc brakes were reportedly made in Taiwan. They were then sold at Trek dealers around the country. They were also sold online at www.trekbikes.com. The brakes were available from June 2021 to March 2023. They retailed anywhere from $730 and $3,300.
What Can Consumers Do?
Trek Bicycle Corp. is advising owners of recalled bicycles to stop using them in the meantime. They should then call the nearest authorized Trek dealer. They will inspect the bike and repair it if necessary. This service is free.
