Volkswagen Group of America has issued a voluntary recall of the ID4. The electric vehicles have a 2023 model year. The carmaker said doors on the ID4 could open while in motion. The company expects around 16,000 units to become affected by the issue.
Volkswagen told federal safety officers that the vehicles could have a faulty seal. The ID4s might have door handles allowing water to enter the circuit board. This can result in a sudden door opening. These incidents could occur once there’s an increase in lateral forces. This can happen when the car is traveling at a speed below 9 mph.
Car doors that open while in motion increase the odds of accidents and injuries.
Volkswagen also admitted to receiving around ten incident reports of doors opening.
