Vornado Air has recalled its Steamfast Home & Away Travel Steam Irons. It’s also done the same to its Brookstone Steam Bug Travel Steam Irons. The recall reportedly affects around 322,000 units of steam irons.
The recall is reportedly due to a shoddy power cord. It could become damaged close to the cord bushing. This could result in the cord overheating. The Consumer Product Safety Commission said this poses a fire and burn hazard. The damaged cord can also expose the copper wires in the unit. This poses a shock hazard.
Vornado Air has already received 50 incident reports. 38 of those reports indicated smoking and sparking power cords. Some reported burning or overheating cords. There were also 12 reports complaining of cord damage. The good news is there were no injuries reported.
What are the Affected Items?
The Vornado Air recall affects the Steamfast dual voltage iron. These have model numbers SF-717, SF-720, and SF-727. The manufacturing codes fall from January 2008 to March 2017.
The Brookstone Steam Bug Irons with number 606335 are also part of the recall. Consumers can find the model codes and production numbers on the back of the product.
The defective irons are also identifiable by the cord bushing length. The recalled irons have either a black or gray cord bushing. This extends for about an inch from the cord enclosure.
