There’s an ongoing nationwide recall for VRURC portable chargers. The China-based company is looking to recall around 190,000 units of these chargers. The devices could ignite and become a potential fire hazard.
The chargers reportedly have a manufacturing defect. This can cause them to overheat.
There was one report of a VRURC charger catching fire on a commercial flight. Four flight attendants were reportedly transported to the hospital after the incident. They were all treated for smoke inhalation.
What are the Affected Products?
The massive recall applies to VRURC “OD-B7” portable power bank model. The device has built-in cables and a wall plug. Consumers can see the model number printed on the back of the charger.
The portable chargers come in black, blue, green, and orange. There were also pink, red, and white options released.
The devices were only sold at Amazon from July 2021 to May 2023. It retailed from $30 to $40.
What Can Consumers Do?
VRURC is advising owners of these portable charges to refrain from using them. They should also contact the company to receive a free replacement device.
Consumers are also advised not to throw the power banks in trash bins. These devices contain lead batteries. They have to become handled in a careful manner to prevent damage to the environment. It’s best to take the recalled chargers to a waste processing center.
