The Dorel Juvenile Group has issued a voluntary recall of its Maxi-Cosi Coral XP. This model is for Rear-Facing Infant Seats. The recall is now expected to affect around 14,510 units of the seats. This is on top of an earlier recall of its infant car seats.
The affected rear-facing seats are under model number IC313. This is the second recall for the Maxi-Cosi Coral XP. The company earlier recalled 60,000 units. The issue then was detaching seat bases.
What’s the Problem?
A company report states that the inner carrier of the car seat cannot restrain a child. It isn’t enough for the task. It still needs to use the outer carrier.
Infant and children’s car seats should be sturdy enough to restrain the user. Loose belts or insufficient restraining power increase the risk of injuries. Especially in a car crash.
What Should Consumers Do?
Dorel states that customers should only use the inner carrier when it’s attached to the outer one. Users should install the seat using the car’s belt restraint system. They should do this with or without the infant carrier’s base. There are instructions on how to do this in the carrier’s booklet. Users can also check the product’s label.
The company is also offering a refund for the defective product. Consumers can also choose to have the infant seat replaced free of charge.
Dorel is set to send out notification letters by April 17, 2023.
Owners can also call the company’s customer service number at (877) 657-9546. They can also send an email to CoralXPRecall@djgusa.com.
Consumers can also check the NHTSA website for more information on the issue. They can verify if their car seat’s model is also affected.
