Ford Motors has issued a voluntary recall of its Explorer and Lincoln Aviator SUVs. These have the model year 2020-2023. It has also included the 2020 to 2022 model year Lincoln Corsairs in the recall.
The company says the recall is due to an issue with its rear camera. The problem reportedly affects 422,201 vehicles.
Understanding the Issue
Ford already recalled some of the vehicles earlier over the same problem. The company updated its image processing module software last year. But it appears that particular remedy wasn’t enough to address the problem.
The company again reported that the image from its rear camera do not appear. All the recalled vehicles have a built-in 360-degree camera.
The video output failing to display the rearview camera image can cause problems. It can reduce the driver’s visibility. This increases the risk of the car crashing or getting into an accident.
Ford received 17 incident reports of minor crashes related to the issue last year. The company also received over 2,100 warranty reports.
What Can Consumers Do?
Ford has acknowledged that they don’t have a concrete fix at the moment. The company said the remedy is still under development. They’re already working with their parts suppliers to identify the cause. They’ve already tasked said suppliers to come up with a solution.
Vehicles already repaired under the earlier recall still need a new remedy. The company is set to send out owner notification letters by June 26, 2023. Vehicle owners can also contact Ford via its customer service. They can call (866) 436-7332 and use the code 23S23 for this recall.
