Honda has recalled around 1.7 million cars and SUVs due to a potential steering issue.
The multinational firm says there are problems with the steering gearbox assembly. This could make steering difficult and increase the risk of a crash.
What are the Affected Models?
The massive recall affects 1,693,199 vehicles from the 2022 to 2025 line. This includes the following:
- 2022-2025 Honda Civic 4D
- 2025 Honda Civic 4D Hybrid
- 2022-2025 Honda Civic 5D
- 2025 Honda Civic 5D Hybrid
- 2023-2025 Honda Civic Type R
- 2023-2025 Honda CR-V
- 2023-2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid
- 2025 Honda CR-V Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle
- 2023-2025 Honda HR-V
- 2023-2025 Acura Integra
- 2024-2025 Acura Integra Type S
Reports state there were problems with the steering gearbox worm wheel. It could cause excessive internal friction between the worm gear and the worm wheel. This could make steering more difficult and increase the risk of a crash or injury.
The company first received complaints about the problem in September 2021. Honda has received 10,328 warranty claims related to this issue. There have been no reports of injuries or fatalities related to the problem.
What Can Consumers Do?
Honda is asking vehicle owners to head to their nearest dealership. Dealers will check the worm gear spring. They will apply grease or replace components as needed. This is at no cost to owners.
