Hyundai Motor America has issued a recall of various 2019 to 2023 models. This includes the 2019 – 2022 Veloster N and the 2019 – 2023 Genesis G70. The company also recalled the Elantra N and Kona N 2022 – 2023 models.
Data shows that Hyundai’s newest recall affects 54,647 vehicles.
Understanding the Problem
Hyundai is recalling the said vehicles due to a potential failure of the fuel pump. The issue could lead to a loss of power while driving, increasing the risk of an accident.
A report said a premature wearing of the fuel control valve in the high-pressure fuel pump. It might let excess fuel enter the pump and cause an imbalance in the air-fuel mixture. This could lead to a reduction or complete loss of power at low speeds, which increases the risk of a crash.
In a statement, Hyundai said they have filed a recall to address this condition. The company said there are no reported crashes or injuries related to this problem.
What is the Next Step for Owners?
Hyundai is advising vehicle owners to head to their nearest dealership. Dealers will update the engine control module software. They will also check the fuel pump assembly. Hyundai will replace the fuel pump if needed. This is a free service for the owners.
The company sent notification letters to the owners on September 3, 2024. The letters informed vehicle owners of the safety risks. Hyundai is set to send another notice providing details on the final remedy by October 2024.
