Hyundai’s plans to expand might end up on the backburner. The company is having issues with one of its newer models.
The vehicle manufacturer is recalling around 50,000 units of the Santa Fe and Santa Fe HEV models. The recall is due to faulty airbags.
Automobile makers designed airbags to protect passengers during a crash. Unreliable airbags are ineffective airbags though. That’s what the airbags in the Santa Fe and HEV models are.
There are reports of the airbags failing to deploy during an accident. There are also cases of random airbag deployment.
Unintended airbag deployment can result in an injury. Airbags that don’t deploy as intended increase the risk of harm during a collision.
What is the Problem?
Hyundai’s latest recall affects specific 2024 Santa Fe and Santa Fe HEV models. The problem lies in the main floor wiring harness. The component can rub against the passenger-side seat. The issue is often seen in the second-row bench seat assembly. The wiring harness rubbing against the seat can damage it. This can cause the airbags to either deploy without warning or fail to deploy in an accident.
What Can Consumers Do?
Hyundai believes the problem is easy to resolve. The vehicle manufacturer is asking owners to head to the nearest Hyundai dealership. Dealers will inspect and repair the wiring harness. They can also replace it if needed. This service is free of charge.
The company is set to send out owner notification letters by September 23.
Vehicle owners can also contact Hyundai customer service for more information. They can call 1-855-371-9460. The reference number for this recall is 265.
