Kawasho Foods Inc. is recalling 4 oz. cans of their GEISA medium shrimp. There have been reports of cans that are swelling and leaking. There are also instances of the cans bursting. This is a voluntary recall.
The company says there’s a chance the product was under-processed. This can result in pathogens and spoilage of organisms.
An announcement made by Kawasho Foods listed the issue as a potential contamination. It also indicated the possibility of contamination with Clostridium botulinum. This is bacteria that can produce deadly toxins. This often occurs in conditions with low oxygen, like a packed can.
