Kia has announced a voluntary recall for certain 2025 Kia EV9 SUVs. The company says there’s a possible manufacturing defect. This affects the rear gear drive unit (GDU) motor shaft.
The company identified the issue during internal checks. Kia discovered there might be defects with the rear GDU motor shaft welding. This could lead to a sudden loss of drive power. That’s a significant safety risk while driving.
The automobile manufacturer estimates the recall affects around 1,243 units. The SUVs were all distributed through dealerships across the US.
Kia is working with federal regulators to inspect and replace the faulty component. This will be at no cost to the vehicle owners.
What are the Affected Units?
Kia said the recall affects the 2025 Kia EV9. These all-electric SUVs feature the company’s official branding and design elements. Their manufacturing dates were from July 31, 2023, to February 22, 2024. The date of manufacture is on the driver-side door jamb label.
